[PAX East ’13] Clanking shovels with Yacht Club Games’ Sean Velasco

I had the pleasure of speaking with Ex-Wayforward/Current-Yacht Club Games’ Lead Designer Sean Velasco at this past PAX East. Velasco and his indie crew are currently working on their recently-announced 8-bit throwback platformer Shovel Knight, and I had more than a few questions (and a special request) to bring up during the interview.

I learned about some of the biggest NES game influences that fueled the company’s desire to make the game, in addition to how a more modern game like Dark Souls found its way into the team’s hearts. I also bring up the possibility of seeing the game on PSN/XBLA, as well as the possibility of incorporating stretch goals once the Kickstarter project hits its goal. The team also seems to be toying with the idea of a multiplayer aspect with the Wii U version of the game.

Oh, and if you’ve ever played Double Dragon Neon, stick around for the end. Once you’re done watching, why not give my preview and video playthrough of Shovel Knight a look?
